Four Worst Pets to Keep as Pets

Primates: Carrying Diseases

Primates such as monkeys and chimpanzees may seem like cool and fun pets, but there are several reasons why they are not a good idea to keep pets. First, primates can harbor many life-threatening parasites and viruses, including Ebola virus, rabies, salmonella, and monkeypox.

In addition, primates are highly intelligent creatures that grow stronger and larger as they mature. They become difficult to care for and manage, and they become incredibly strong. Primates have been known to attack without reason and without warning, wreaking havoc. Primate attacks are extremely dangerous and can result in death.

In most countries, it is already illegal to keep primates as pets. However, they are still kept as pets in many places. Keeping them as pets requires great care, effort, and love. Even if you do the right thing, you run the risk of being attacked by disease or becoming infected.

Rodents: Different to Train

Pocket pets such as rats, chinchillas, hamsters, and gerbils may seem like the perfect pet for your child because they look fluffy, small, and cute. However, these animals are usually very afraid of humans and do not like to be handled or touched. With training, they can learn to enjoy the human touch, but many of these animals are sold as adults in pet stores and are very difficult to train.

The size of these small rodents also requires an amazing amount of care and attention. They require special food, special cages, places to sleep, water fountains, and exercise equipment. For example, some hamsters must live alone and they need large hamster habitat to play in. In addition, many of these "pocket pets" are nocturnal. This means they like to stay awake while you sleep. You can usually find them sleeping when you pet them or try to play with them.

Owl: Eat Raw Animal Meat

It is already illegal to keep owls as pets in most US states. Owls are nocturnal and are pure predators in nature. The amount of care an owl requires is large and difficult to understand, and most owl owners keep their pets in completely inappropriate conditions and environments.

When threatened, owls use their sharp claws and beaks to wreak havoc on humans and can even fatally injure children. Owls are also carnivores, and raw animal meat must be preserved and frozen to feed your pet owl. Working with flesh, blood and corpses are not for everyone.

Reptiles: Salmonella

Reptiles like iguanas and lizards may look nice and cool, but nearly 90% of these animals carry salmonella, which can be a health hazard. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 93,000 people are infected with salmonella through exposure to reptiles.

Reptiles are also very difficult to handle and care for. You need constant UVA and UVB lighting, materials for climbing and sunbathing, warmth, food, and medical care. All of this adds up to spending a lot of money taking care of things that can cause salmonella!
